National Day Oman 2018

National Day is celebrated in Oman annually on November 18.

This holiday was started to celebrate birthday of Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said.

Qaboos bin Said al Said was born on November 18, 1940.

He received education in India, at the age of 16 he was sent to England to study at a private establishment.

At 20 he entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and then after graduation joined the British Army.

After the end of his military service he studied local government subjects and finally returned back to Oman, where he studied the history of his country.

Qaboos rose to power after the coup, staged against his father, on July 23, 1970.

He aimed to end the policy of country's isolation from the world, that was pursued by his father.

Qaboos intended to use the oil revenue for modernization and development of the country.

People of Oman praise their Sultan and celebrate November 18 as National Day.

The anniversary of Qaboos' raising to power is also celebrated as Renaissance Day.
